Why Not Wear Marilyn’s Dress, Kim Kardashian — You Massive Fame Bore

Kim Kardashian could not be sewed into Marilyn’s famous 1962 gown

I used to paint giant 6'x6' paintings wearing heels and one of my grandmother’s dresses from the 1950s. Before you go, “ooh, Coastal grannie,” my grandmother was called “the most beautiful woman in Redlands” and was 5'4" and 110 pounds. She was absolutely intimidating and it was some kind of crazy miracle I could zip these things up. They were made to wear with the bullet bras and girdles of the period.

But they were simple cotton day dresses from the 50s, not Marilyn Monroe’s famous “naked dress” that she wore to sing “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy.

I started asking students, “Which would you rather be — rich or famous?” back in the early 2000s. At the time, a lot of them said “famous,” but their numbers quickly dwindled. By 2019, no students wanted to be famous. Nearly all wanted to be rich.

Kim Kardashian is both, and it’s hard to discern why except massive hubris. She was married to one of the world’s most abrasive, unpleasant people. She has four children: it’s very sad she was wearing a dress worn by a woman who badly wanted children, but had none.
