Yesterday I went to “bunco.” It’s a dice game where a bunch of women sit together and play in great excitement to possibly win a few dollars (I almost won some! Keyword: almost). One of us made beautiful holiday desserts: among them were a few super-sweet strawberries that I ate and greatly relished.
This was an amazing and simple and delightful event, combining the skills of a lady who’s planned events for her whole career, a gifted cook, and a lot of friendly and caring women who welcomed each other.
This morning I thought, how many such parties and get-togethers occur every day here in the U.S. How many, worldwide?

I’m going to guess that there were at least a million “bunco” or other social games going on yesterday in the U.S. According to “Ask Alexa,” there are an average of 814,000 birthday parties every day in the U.S. alone, and 17 million around the world.
