The Lonely Battle of Being a Woman and Fighting the Patriarchical Algorithm

Those unfortunate TIFUs when trying to suck your own junk

A while back, a female writer on Medium commented that 9 out of 10 “top writers” and 90% of the highly-distributed work on the platform was male-written. Things have improved — a little. A few years ago, it seemed I could not escape twice-daily vaporticles excreted by James Altucher. Even if I blocked or muted him, somehow the next day, he’d show up again forced to my phone. These days, if I want to make a few pennies, all I need to do is write about online dating, discuss how men look at boobs, or do a wee listicle about rich people.

Progress!

But this morning I realized, it’s not a joke. Blind fealty to patriarchy debases us all.

I get it: sex is important to men. Guess what guys? It’s important to women too. If you’re an empath like me you’ll get to my age and think, “Is every sexual thought and action I’ve ever had just an empathetic response to what my male partner wanted?”

Maybe so.

I already know that I’ve been working for years to find my own stories. Hesitantly. Criticized constantly. Alone.
