Ten Days With No WiFi …
Is the very best thing … it will humanize you
One of the biggest hurricanes ever recorded came and destroyed our town.
Many of us evacuated, so we only saw the aftermath of winds clocked at 165 mph/265 kph and 500-year flood levels.
The forests around us gave their branches, leaves, and roots to protect us.
Our small town was without water and power for at least a week, and some still do not have power. For several days, there was little to no cell phone service.
And there’s still no internet.
So, what is it like living like half of the globe lives on a daily basis?
Nights dark because no one has electricity. Bottled water, because even if you can get a trickle out of the tap, it’s sure to be filled with e.coli or its close cousins. Serious thoughts about strangers driving around looking for unoccupied homes.
Oh, and what are ya gonna buy with your plastic when no one’s cash register will open?
What happens when your electric car runs out of charge? When the gas station’s been wiped off the map?
Then there’s the darkened supermarket with an avalanche of sodden pink insulation covering the NFL Playoff junk food display.
