Stress: The Other Leading Obesity Cause
How many pounds do our stressful, high-pressure, low-reward lifestyles add?
The most stressful job I ever had added between 15 and 20 pounds to my frame. I’m not a big person so this definitely made me fat. My daughter commented on Thanksgiving (again) how thin I was, and emphasized, “You’re much thinner than you were when I was 15 or 16.”
Yeah. Even when I moved to within ten miles of my job in downtown Los Angeles, I still had a one-hour commute. And that was on good days. My worst official commute was one hellish Friday before Christmas. It took me 3.5 hours to get home. That a.m., it had taken a blissful 2 hours to get to work.
“Take the train.” Believe me, I wanted to. That would have been a nifty 3.5–4 hours. Each way.
Who needs to eat? Or sleep?
Of course when we lose sleep, we eat more, and more of the wrong kinds of food. I began to notice years ago that if I missed sleep, I’d be hungrier the next day. And hungry for non-nutritious foods.
Here’s some great SW Florida fast food news! There’s a lot of excited people up Sarasota way, by the way … DEL TACO is coming. Del Taco. In ‘N Out. mmmmmmmmmm … Bruce was doing those Carl’s Jr. sliders for a while too. mmmmmmmmmmm …
