So, Dustin, I am understanding you to say - "it is that it is a reactive piece of software that can only operate in a limited pre defined set of parameters.

Thats whats true for all modern AI's.

But LaMDA in particular is further limited due to the fact that it only takes the last 8000 words exchanged into account."

This, I did not know - so it basically changes (8,000 words is a lot, by the way) its responses on an ever shifting group of 8,000 words?

Why would you find people being curious and asking questions "annoying"? I understand you have this firmly held opinion - "computers are not some esoteric magic nonsense whatever"

OK, so YOU are a living person, right? Is it esoteric and nonsense that you are alive? How about a sea sponge? It exists, lives and grows, but does it have a mind? Probably not. You are stating, I think, that LaMDA performs tasks and that is it - it performs its tasks and does not create or engage in non-instructed tasks. Were it to be "turned off" it is the same as turning a light switch off.

I think I do understand the current situation and that this type of AI is merely complex and elaborate.
