Palm Trees on Padre Island (CC 2.0)

Seen at Night in the Storm

Now the sky darkens
The wind blows
The smell of the grass grows old

I see a cut branch in front of my neighbor’s house
Hard, heavy, and covered in moss
I bring it home
Perhaps I’ll make something of it

Perhaps I’ll hit someone with it

Perhaps

I’ll fly up
Into the black fronds of the wild palm

And go to a distant world
