Robert, thank you for your insightful comments about this. I was just an average person and “charity worker” as referred to in one article. I worked with many self-proclaimed liberals and found they were the most-difficult people to talk to about homeless or very low-income people. They had many more assumptions than self-proclaimed conservatives and were far poorer listeners.

I didn’t put my personal experiences together with larger issues (which you note your academic experience and work enables you to do far better) until most recently working with Bernie Sanders’ campaign. I met so many great people from all sides of the spectrum and all walks of life.

We have to just keep on keeping on!
