Oh my God! I knew about Ellen Ternan but not that he'd tried to put his wife in an asylum, nor did I know about his many criticisms of her other than her being overweight! So much for my being a "Dickens Scholar" I am absolutely croggled at my undergrad education and even grad school - let's just say none of this was covered in my British Novel class. yeesh -
