I don’t know about you but my life is 1000x different from 2019 — and 1000x better. In 2019, I was miserable doing something I had previously greatly enjoyed: teaching college students how to get information, analyze it, and write papers. I had no time to write anything for myself, as I was driving to class, grading, prepping, and in my off times, writing any type of work I could get to put together rent. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, our landlord raised our rent from $1,800 a month to $2,100.

He saw no problem with this.

Sure, we lived 20 minutes from the beach, but we also lived in a 55+ community in a 2 bdr, 1 bath condo without central heat and air that had had no improvements since it was built in the 1960s.

When our very old (20+ years) refrigerator had given out months before, he searched endlessly (and we also did, at his request) for what ended up being “America’s Cheapest Refrigerator”.

Here she is! a beauty that went for about $320 back then — she’s $479 now and a steal!
