My husband mentions "Bizarro World" which was apparently part of old Superman comics where they would brush their teeth with shoe polish and polish their shoes with toothpaste. It's like the powers that be realized people were miserable with the extreme conformity of the 50s and the message they took from the 60s is to promote personal social nonconformity as the new "conformity" therefore all would be well. But in reality it's the exact same as if you don't live exactly like "Leave it to Beaver" in the 50s you are therefore a dirty Commie red and deserve no life. Now if you're "nonconforming" as an individual it is all good as long as you don't question this hegemony as ID'd in the article and pretty much everything else we see.
