I have a friend who through sheer force of will and dedication, has kept his smalltown newspaper going in Southern California (believe it or not!). He always proudly displays the paper's awards via social media and he has certainly been through all that you have ... but somehow, has continued to survive. It's really an amazing elegy you have written, so rich and full of all the details of the late 20th century/early 21st century newspaper life. The smell is amazing. I interned at the Los Angeles Times while in college and my editor led me down to the core of the building so I could see, hear, smell, and feel the presses running.
