If you're going to put tax information, make sure this is correct: A typical middle-class wage pays around 30% of their income to the taxman, compared to approximately 24% in the States.

That's not true. Only if you live in a no-income-tax state (like Florida) will you pay the level of tax you describe. In California, you will pay much more than 30% unless you are at the absolute lowest income.
