If we read comments on articles like the LA Times article about Edythe, they are worse than they were years ago in the 80s or 90s. People instantly blame her (a woman of almost 80 years) for being married 3 times, for having dogs, or for “not moving somewhere cheaper”. She cannot even rent a room for $300 a month in any state without some type of public assistance. That would be the “affordable” rent for her. And no new public housing assistance has been provided for the entire Obama Admin and it was coming to a halt during Bush, prior to the mortgage crisis — in which millions lost their homes. I do not understand why people who’ve had no interest on their savings for years, and who have seen their retirement funds shrink dramatically in the stock market crisis, think that this lady’s situation is in any way “okay.” It’s not propaganda. It’s selfishness, cruelty and blindness. The cruelty has rubbed off and the very loudest and cruelest are traditional “liberals,” not conservatives. Once a conservative understands that some people do NOT have opportunities and that the deck has been stacked against them in an insurmountable way, they can change their attitudes. The others? Their genuine callousness and cruelty is unmasked because they not only do not care — they are incapable.
