I was just writing about "white culture." My grandmother was just like your MIL.When going through her things, my aunt and I found some amazing stuff after she became ill and had to go to a care facility (and eventually passed). What was her objection to you, Ruby - just that you were marrying her son? Or was it something about you, your family, what you did? When I brought my first husband home to meet my grandmother, the first words out of her mouth after she met him were "Is he MEXICAN?" (no - but he grew up with "Mexicans" and his best friend was/is Mexican so he wore the typical clothing and he even shuffled a little bit like a cholo at the time). The only bf I ever had that she liked or would accept ... his mom was the one that was totally racist to me!
