I think whomever likes Star Trek, affiliates with positive things and a well-rounded imagination. Those who affiliate only with the negative, dystopian stories? Many are poisoned because it is incredibly omnipresent and so hard to get away from. I think one reason is that those who bankroll film and TV projects are themselves, fearful individuals, few of whom have an easy conscience. Most people are aware that if they do bad things long enough and often enough, some type of bad result will happen to them. I think today's dystopian entertainment is far beyond the Greek concepts of catharsis through tragedy, or people fated to experience terrible consequences as an accident of their birth or because of a curse. It's an addiction. We actually lived through a worldwide pandemic that many believe continues. I really love Gene Roddenberry and love the whole idea that was/is Star Trek, thank you so much for covering this, John. Wonderful. If you look at my profile you will see what I was thinking about, just today. Star Trek has a strange android, "Data" but he is basically an artificially created humanlike creature - to my knowledge the other types are Borg, showing some sort of evil or fearful machine-caused conformity and destruction of individuality. As to actual robots in ST that function as independent beings? I don't know of them. I am sure there are some, because I haven't watched every episode of every series or seen every movie.
