I think most Americans would be shocked that any foreign contributions would be made to US elections. I reviewed the recent DNC hacked emails and found significant discrepancies between April and May 2016 record tabs on their event donor spreadsheet and the PDF report on FEC website available for view. By this I mean some names were listed on the spreadsheet as contributing more than on the PDF report, while some names that appeared on the PDF report as smaller amount donors were only found once on the spreadsheet. I very much doubt the spreadsheet was falsified in such a manner over time. In addition just glancing, I found one donor from Nov and Dec 2015 to DNC that gave several gifts totaling almost $1 million and others in the $400–500k range. I am in no way an election fund expert. However I did think the contribution limit was a little over $100k not $1 million. I looked that up on the Open Secrets website which was a lot easier to understand than yours.
That said, I have written a series of articles about the Clinton Foundation. There are hundreds of millions of dollars from foreign governments and individuals going to that organization and its numerous subsidiaries in foreign locations such as Canada, China, Kenya, the U.K. and Sweden. Contrary to what is said, the Foundation appears to do little work the average person would recognize as charitable. So I don’t think an election law covers that, but perhaps some other laws do.
I’m glad you are financially secure and would likely have some support in case of war or total economic collapse. Welcome to Medium.
