I Know Someone Who Just Quit Microsoft

I was just talking with a client, someone with a lot of expertise in information security who has spent years working on government infosec projects. Most recently, they were working for Microsoft.

This individual was making mid-six figures. Microsoft was billing government agencies three, four, and even more times their pay.

Now free of Microsoft, this pro is starting their own business after years of planning and hard work.

They were always planning to resign but pulled the trigger last week because they “couldn’t take it another minute.”

“Microsoft uses you up physically, mentally, emotionally,” they said. “It gets to the point you have nothing left.” They added, “They [Microsoft] absolutely do not care about anyone’s health, family, nothing.”

Interchangeable People in National Security Roles

So, let me put this into a different perspective than the one commonly presented in media, business publications, tech pubs, etc.

This infosec pro was assigned to do high-level information security tasks on a contract basis to Federal agencies dealing with U.S. national security at the highest level. The company they work…
