I gotta admit, I have at least 2-3 "vacation leg" fotos but they're from our beaches here or back in CA, so hardly Fiji or Maldives. Yeah I live on a golf course 10 minutes from a gulf beach, I used to live 15 minutes from Laguna Beach that is privilege.

>>What I’m describing is much bigger than either of those things. This is about some privileged people behaving as though they have the right to dictate how non-privileged people are “allowed” to feel about their own lives and how they are “allowed” to talk about it>>

I just posted an updated reminiscence of how a really great guy and writer who just passed away had helped me have a writing career. Fundamentally, only certain people can "afford" to do hobby activities for extended periods of time without earning money to support themselves and their families. And those who can afford to spend this hobby time? Automatically better-off financially and those who select the work? You should see the house of the dude who lost 2 of my stories (after being a multiple cover-story writer of the magazine) and who did not respond to me email stating I believed he was gender, age, and class biased. One of the stories he lost was about a 70-something female archaeologist, the other about a Black nursing assistant from South Central Los Angeles who discovers an alien healing object and uses it for the benefit of everyone in the neighborhood. I took the time to tell this individual that he had somehow lost 2 stories--one about an older female in a nontraditional job, the other about a Black female. I actually wrote "It came to South LA" because of physically talking with people from South LA and an agreement among the group, "If Jesus Christ himself came down to South LA it would not be on the news unless there was also a gang shooting." This was in the mid-2000s!

Maybe I am not making sense but I relate to your writing because I'm a poor. And I'm putting more context than just the vacation brags. The people who gatekeep and select are the vacay-leg people. If you're not rich, as I stated in my updated reminiscence of a man who legit helped me and who died yesterday - can you or I or anyone else justify hours of unpaid work when there's paying work and mouths to feed?

I'm pretty much done with these richies.
