I didn't know - I will look for her story. Everyone knew all the characters in the show, it was probably the most popular show at the time. My friend & I were also not the only ones to read the books, which had pictures very different from the TV show. I haven't written much about it but kids would tease about the most minute aspects of appearance, clothing, you name it. I'm sure they still do - but there's so much more leeway these days in terms of dress, personal appearance, lifestyles. Back then, it was so restrictive. Gayness is the most obvious example but I never had a "typical" look (my friend had bleached blonde hair - and yes, was teased about it). I hated all parts of myself and felt I was so ugly I was astonished anyone would be my friend.
