Hello Tressie, you look fabulous. I was feeling like total dogshit and worthless today until I read this. Like there is no hope and why would I even bother. Why would I not just give up.
“Shells aren’t designer handbags, but a cosmetology school in a strip mall isn’t a job at Bank of America, either.”
It’s shoes too. And B of A near us is threadbare and the whole thing seems going down the tubes, with the newly-hired staff not dressing as you describe. 100% of the VPs I used to work with doing affordable housing and econ development pre-2008 were terminated in the 2 years after the mortgage crisis. Now the consumer bankers are wearing clothes from Target and cashing checks for day laborers.
Just reading this one article about your incredible family, written in your incredible voice, with such truth and power makes me think maybe it will happen some day after all.
Maybe all of us can have a chance.
Maybe things can change and with this right here: they already have.
Every day I feel lousy I put on my clothes just like you describe and Vivian to me was Nana.
