Greg — it’s not rocket science (I can’t believe I said that). Everyone in Alaska gets a dividend based on the amount of revenue earned by the state natural resources (i.e. oil, natural gas, mineral resources). It’s about $1,000 to $1,500 per year per resident. . Native tribes distribute sometimes BIG annual payments earned from tribal businesses. They also employ tribal members and these days, some of them are supporting the surrounding communities (like San Manuel tribe and San Bernardino) that are struggling, while the tribe’s casino does well.

We have a mental attitude that sharing resources in this manner would somehow be “immoral”. Just about everybody believes they are entitled to their Social Security — and that this amount shouldn’t be reduced for the wealthy, nor increased out of proportion for the poor. SS isn’t a bank and that lady living in her car is getting a payment taken from the funds those of us who are working right now, are paying in. I’ve had bitter arguments with people who believe “their” SS is literally the money they paid in while working. This is untrue.

The main thing is — if our government is willing to pay $60,000 a year to INCARCERATE people or shove them in a SHELTER, why is it not willing to create, say, a $45,000 a year job and benefits and put the individual to work doing something constructive? If people say there is no work, that is a LIE. We have grade D- infrastructure so there are plenty of construction jobs. We have classrooms with 40 children so if we added twice the # of teachers, there could be classrooms with 20 children.

Private prison contractors get the money from some of the prisons. Shelter funds end up trickling into various pockets as well. Every single one of these programs has become a mechanism for extracting cash from average taxpayers and directing it upward (and my research shows — even OUTWARD) as to foreign countries.

They’re talking about “robots taking our jobs.” Whatever happened about people taking their time and doing a certain job right? What about adequate numbers of full time college teachers instead of armies of part-time instructors? It’s priorities and management not necessary to spend vast sums of additional money. If someone built small apartments or trailers renting for $500 a month that lady would have a place to live. Now, the one that used to cost that is an Air BnB rental (in Carlsbad). Increasingly going unrented …
