Finding Joy In The Company of Women

What is bringing people together after the pandemic?

When my daughter moved to Southwest Florida in 2021, she joined the Tampa Bay Socialites, a group of young women who get together for beach time, dancing, outdoor activities and other events. The purpose of the group? Meeting other young women, forming friendships, and having a good time.

A couple of months ago, I heard about a similar group in my community for my age range: the Viva Divas. When I joined, there were about 400 members.

Now, there are over 2,200 and the group continues to grow. Most Diva events are women-only. But there are a few events where spouses/partners are invited.

For the first two years after we moved to Florida, our only friends were our immediate neighbors.

Then we started playing music and we met other musicians.

Two months post-Diva?

I haven’t had this many friends and activities since high school. Kayaking, working out, beach days, pool parties, lunches, dinners …
