Dealing With Idiots Online
And other lessons for the people-pleasers among us
There are a lot of dumb people online. A lot of the “content” we see is aimed straight at them. It’s exciting to see that artificial intelligence is on its way to create even more content for idiots.
Not.
I do have some things in common with people on the autism spectrum, although what’s wrong with me differs quite a bit from their cognitive habits and preferences.
I’m a physical empath, I have BDD, and I was raised in an abusive home where I didn’t just get all the markers for being an anorexic overachieving supermom … it’s taken a lifetime for me to learn to accept myself as a regular person and stand up for myself from time to time.
So when morons say appallingly stupid things online, my default is to respond courteously to them or to attempt to communicate with them like they had a quarter of an operating brain cell.
I should say “default was.”
Because I’ve begun to treat the online morons with the respect they deserve.
I mean this sincerely, and if everyone adopted the methodology I’m going to set forth, we’d see a lot less moronic behavior on social media.
