Brutal Norwegian Officials Euthanize Freya the Walrus

There’s always an excuse for whatever wrongdoing this type of official decides

Not being from Norway, I hadn’t known about Freya the Walrus until it was too late. She had already been euthanized by officials from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries.

According to news reports, Freya’s visits to the Oslo fjord, far south of her usual range, had become a “popular attraction” by mid-July. Experts say, “It’s difficult to understand why she was euthanized when there were so many other options to relocate her or protect people.”

I’ve written before about how we can judge our society by how it treats its weakest human members.

So too, can we judge, by how our society treats animals — no matter what their size, no matter what their level of sentience, no matter what their level of “cuteness.”
