Antisemitism is Despicable but Opposing Genocide is Not

When did I become radicalized against Zionism and an advocate against the genocide of Palestinians and for their freedom?

Shortly after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israeli settlements, I saw a video of a Palestinian father cradling his dead baby in his arms, grieving.

Unlike the overwhelming majority of Americans or Europeans who may read what I write, I recognized instantly that the baby was dead.

Why?

When my baby Anthony died January 11, 2005, for one hour, I was permitted to hold him at the emergency room at Tarzana Medical Center.

It was the same.

The father stroked his baby’s tiny arms and head. She looked a little like she was sleeping. Then he turned, his face contorted in grief, and I saw she could not be sleeping.

There was an enormous bloody wound on the other side of her head.

Anthony wasn’t killed by bomb shrapnel in Gaza. His father left him alone with his bottle. He aspirated his formula, choked, and fell unconscious. He died in the ambulance on the way…
