So no, you do not understand. His statement does not support gun control or a reduction of violence in the US. And, the Ukrainian people do not need excess personal weapons that should never have been made and sold in the first place. None of us know enough about this war or its background to qualify this statement as making it similar to saying send guns to arm Jews in Europe against Hitler - the correct response then would have been to go fight and defend the innocent. Neither happened then, and this won't happen now, it's just an unrealistic, callow, and slavish political statement.
