They believe that the reason their sales are ever-dwindling, even in the face of massively-successful indy authors who are creating pop fiction for defined audiences, is "People are stupid." Yes - the top echelon does firmly believe that the unwashed masses in "flyover country" are total idiots and that is why they don't regularly buy and read books.
