Alex — there are all-male groups and have been for a long time (and all-female, too). In this case it was a little different to historical groups in that this was a mailing list of all-female sci-fi and fantasy writers. My fiance at the time, an award-winning, bestselling horror writer and editor, was driven nuts by the fact I was talking with my girlfriends and shared with me what I said — pretty much verbatim, as the men routinely talked amongst themselves and played poker together. His agent was Stephen King’s agent. They played poker together. Then he went with that guy’s sister and Stephen King went with another agent. So there had been all-male groups of writers and publishers for a long time. All the men in the King’s Men were — men (at the Globe) for example. Don’t be dumb. For the first time there were sufficient females to form a group of their own. We could have played poker; instead we formed a company.
