We live in a world where an editor of a major publication writes that “Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.”
- They are all white.
- The U.S. living standards for whites are lower than those of 1930s Germany.
- The U.S. has been forced to pay for over 15 years of war, as Weimar Republic Germany was forced to pay for over 4 years of war.
- The U.S. has a long history of killing people of color and members of the LGBTQ community.
- Women have little meaningful political or business participation. They were only given the right to vote in Germany in 1918.
- Jews can’t participate in the political process.
Do you know how insulting it is to compare the U.S. to Nazi Germany?
Every time you write crap like what I just wrote you insult every single one of 60 million men and women who gave their lives to stop Hitler. You might as well go to one of the national cemeteries and take a dump on their graves.
Are you aware that many conservatives are dead-set against Donald Trump? Because of the picture above —
I’m not saying “Support Donald Trump” in any way. I support the old Jewish man, Bernie Sanders. Maybe because my Dad, from whom I was estranged most of my life due to prejudice and hatred, was an old Jewish guy. My brother is, to this day, an old Jewish man. And my old Jewish grandma, with whom I was able to spend not very much time, was not only the first female pharmacist in California, she was one of the 6 founding members of the American Communist party.
No, I’m no friend to Hitler and his kind.
But I do sort of have an idea of who and what they are.
And Trump supporters are not it.
If you can’t even think about somebody who might go to a political rally of someone you oppose without verbally abusing and harassing them, then it’s not Donald Trump or Ted Cruz supporters who are most like the Nazis.
There is not a brown shirt visible in this picture.
Our fight today is to truly respect and care for one another. As one Medium writer commented, there is no “bravery” in Facebook Mark Zuckerberg’s chastising employees for scratching out “Black Lives Matter” on company chalkboards. There would be bravery in his inviting the people of differing opinions to speak with each other in a way that would not denigrate any, and enlighten all. He didn’t do that, did he?
Because we take the easy way out. Those of us who wish to tread the hard path just have to keep putting one foot ahead of the other each day.
And putting our feet in the other person’s shoes.
If you really do think people who want to support Donald Trump are just like murderous Nazi leaders like Josef Goebbels and they ought to be shot — it might well be a good idea to move somewhere else, where everyone would agree with you.
And pick up your weapons and go to war. You won’t be fighting with Trump supporters, either. You’ll be fighting with people like this.
